Minor earthquake shakes Napa and Sonoma counties

A minor earthquake struck Napa Valley Thursday night and was felt in the Santa Rosa area. The U.S. Geological Survey recorded a 3.7-magnitude earthquake about 9:04 p.m. It lasted about a second.

The epicenter was six miles east-northeast of Yountville and 24 miles northeast of the City of Sonoma. It was at a depth of about five miles.

Emergency dispatchers in Napa and Sonoma counties reported no calls about the tremor.

"We heard it first and then there was a very quick pop and that was it," said Capt. Jim Christison of the Napa County Fire Department's Yountville Station. "We felt it but we've had no reports of any damage in the area."
