Lakai Kirk was given CPR at the crash site before being rushed to the hospital. Helicopters arrived from the CHP and Sonoma County Sheriff's Office, airlifting the boy and his mother, Paulson said.
The boy was taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, Paulson said. The driver, Castellanos, was taken by ambulance to Queen of the Valley with moderate to major injuries, Paulson said.
Ariel Kirk suffered major injuries and remained in the intensive care unit in serious condition on Monday at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, said Vanessa deGier, a hospital spokesperson.
Cindy Pawlcyn, 58, a well-known restaurant pioneer in Napa Valley, was riding in the Lexus, which her husband, John Watanabe, 66, was driving, Paulson said. Both are from St. Helena. They were taken by ambulance to Queen of the Valley Hospital, Pawlcyn to be treated for moderate injuries, Paulson said. Watanabe received minor injuries.
Pawlcyn's condition was listed as fair at Queen of the Valley on Monday, meaning that she is conscious and her vital signs are stable, a hospital spokesperson, Vanessa deGier, said. Castellano was also in fair condition Monday, she said. She did not have information on Watanabe's condition.
It does not appear that drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.
Lakai Kirk was in a booster seat at the time of the crash and wearing a lap and shoulder belt, Paulson said.
