Clearlake apartment fire possibly caused by honey oil lab

An illegal laboratory used to manufacture concentrated cannabis oil is suspected of causing a Sunday afternoon fire at a Clearlake apartment complex, Clearlake police said.

Firefighters found butane bottles and other paraphernalia used for manufacturing the drug, commonly called honey oil, when they responded to a fire on Olympic Drive at about 3 p.m., police said.

Two people, Dylan Nevarez, 22, of Clearlake, and Matthew Carr, 24, a transient, were arrested on suspicion of manufacturing a controlled substance and child endangerment, police said.

There were four children at the apartment, ranging in age from one month to two years, police said.

Fires caused by the notoriously unstable honey oil manufacturing process appears to be on the rise throughout the North Coast, officials have said.
