A 23-year-old Monte Rio motorist killed Monday night on Guerneville Road was traveling at speeds as high as 70 mph when he spun out of control and slammed into another car, according to the California Highway Patrol.
At least one witness said the man, who was not identified pending notification of his family, may have been chasing another car in a road rage incident, said CHP Officer Kimberly Lemons.
He was driving a white 1994 Mitsubishi 3000GT west on Guerneville Road west of Olivet Road, according to witnesses who said he was crossing the double yellow line to pass other cars, according to Lemons.
At one point near the narrow bridged over the Laguna de Santa Rosa, he lost control of his car, sliding into the oncoming lanes sideways where his passenger side was struck by a Ford Flex heading east.
"The Ford struck his passenger door and went right into the compartment, striking the driver," said Lemons. "His car basically got t-boned."
Emergency responders pulled the man from the car but he was dead at the scene, she said.
The driver of the Ford, Jennifer Mirasty, 27, of Santa Rosa, was transported by ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Her 13-year-old niece, who was a passenger, was taken to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center. Lemons said the injuries were not believed to be serious.
The accident, which occurred at 6:45 p.m., closed the Guerneville Road between Olivet Road and Frei Road, for more than two hours.
