Fire damages Santa Rosa business

A Santa Rosa shop that sells motorcycle gear was damaged by a fire early Saturday morning and was closed for cleanup and repairs.

The fire began in a dumpster behind The Cycle Gear at 3011 Santa Rosa Ave. and spread into the store, according to the Santa Rosa Fire Department.

Most of the damage was caused by smoke and water from the sprinkler system inside the store. The fire department estimated the structure damage at $10,000 and about $30,000 in merchandise and fixtures.

There was some smoke and water damage inside Shutterbug, the building's other tenant. But that store was open Saturday.

The fire, which was believed to have been set on purpose, is under investigation, fire officials said.

One of the building's owners said he expected Cycle Gear, which sells motorcycle helmets, gear and equipment, to reopen soon.
