The bullpen's second long reliever, Yusmeiro Petit, pitched four sharp innings but likely will be kept behind glass the rest of the series after throwing 54 pitches. The bullpen settled the Rockies bats, but the Giants never threatened to come back.

The lineup had scored just seven runs in the previous four games — three of them losses — and turned in another clunker Monday. Rockies left-hander Jorge De La Rosa entered the night 0-3 with a 7.58 ERA, but he scattered five hits and allowed just one run in five innings. The Giants had one hit in four innings against the Colorado bullpen, striking out six times.

Angel Pagan was ejected after ferociously arguing a called third strike in the seventh inning, and with only one backup outfielder, Bochy was unable to pull Michael Morse, who often gets a breather late in blowouts. On this night, however, that was the least of the manager's problems.
