Teen boy shot in Petaluma; circumstances unclear

Petaluma police Saturday night were investigating the shooting of a 17-year-old boy who stumbled into his father's home with a chest wound.

The boy, whose name wasn't released, was expected to survive, police Lt. Tim Lyons said.

Around 5 p.m., the boy made his way to his father's house on Sycamore Lane behind the police department.

The father called police, initially thinking the boy had been hit by a car, Sgt. Paul Gilman said.

But it was soon determined the boy had been shot, Gilman said, and he was taken to the hospital with serious wounds.

The boy was in stable condition and was expected to survive, Lyons said late Saturday.

It remained unclear where the shooting happened and under what circumstances, Gilman said. It didn't appear there were gang overtones.
