Santa Rosa Junior College hosts Day Under the Oaks Sunday

Santa Rosa Junior College will open its buildings and grounds to the public Sunday for the annual Day Under the Oaks campus celebration.

College departments will have displays and exhibits and about 140 booths will give the public a glimpse into campus life, programs and academics, according to organizers.

Animals from Shone Farm will be on the grounds, the biology department will have a human brain exhibit, there will be a magic show and as always, Native American dance performances.

There will also be live music and planetarium shows.

Begun in 1978, the annual event was halted in 2009 amid concerns about swine flu. Continued fears about budget constraints kept the event dormant until its return last year.

Admission and parking are free for the annual event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Mendocino Avenue campus is free. Pets are prohibited.
