The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors has no plans currently to consider a formal censure of Efren Carrillo or a resolution calling for his resignation.
Board Chairman David Rabbitt said he does not see the need for such actions.
Confusion at Tuesday's board meeting led some supervisors and members of the public to believe the board would be considering a such official steps at next Tuesday's meeting.
At the board meeting this week, Rabbitt told Carrillo that his actions the night of his arrest "were unbecoming of a public official."
"We do condemn them and censure you for your actions on that night," he said.
On Wednesday, Rabbitt said his preference is to leave it at that.
"It doesn't change anything to put anything on paper," Rabbitt said. He said last Tuesday's board meeting "was brutal enough. To keep it going, I don't think that serves anyone's interest."
Putting a resolution up for consideration on the board agenda would allow the public to comment on it. Rabbitt expressed concerns about the board spending another "three hours with folks repeating" what they said this week.
Supervisor Susan Gorin said the board's comments are to be put into the meeting minutes and voted upon next Tuesday as part of the consent calendar, citing a conversation with County Administrator Veronica Ferguson. Ferguson did not return a message seeking comment.
Gorin said "in hindsight, we probably should have been more specific … about what kind of action we wanted to see."
She said she doesn't know whether a more formal action against Carrillo would accomplish anything.
Supervisor Shirlee Zane said she is an advocate of doing the "strongest thing we could possibly do," but she said the board would need to discuss further what that might be.
"I think we have to look at the process and whether it's worth it," she said.
