Santa Rosa man who robbed armored car company gets 32 years

A Santa Rosa man convicted of masterminding the robbery of nearly $1 million from an armored car company warehouse and attempting a second heist a year later was sentenced Wednesday to 32 years in prison.

Monico Dominguez, 41, was convicted in February of the Aug. 11, 2011, robbery at Garda Cash Logistics on Northpoint Parkway in southwest Santa Rosa. The heavily armed man and an accomplice stormed in behind an armored truck, bound terrified employees and made off with a duffel bag of cash.

Jurors in his two-week federal trial also found him guilty of plotting another heist that was thwarted on Aug. 6, 2012, with the help of a reward-seeking informant. He was convicted on 10 of 11 counts, including money laundering.

U. S. District Judge Edward Chen handed down mandatory minimum sentence under the law, said his lawyer, Jai Gohel, who argued the punishment was too harsh and violated his constitutional rights.
