Ukiah man arrested in stabbing

A Ukiah man was arrested Wednesday morning on suspicion of stabbing another man during a gang-related altercation that took place earlier in the week.

Gabriel Manuel Hernandez, 24, has been booked into Mendocino County jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Ukiah Police Department.

The stabbing occurred about 4:35 p.m. Monday. The victim and two other people were walking near the footbridge to a creek off Orchard Avenue when the suspect approached, police said.

Hernandez attacked the victim, cutting him twice with a knife before fleeing the area, police said.

Hernandez was later identified as the suspect. He was arrested after police spotted him about 6:30 a.m. inside a vehicle traveling on North Bush Street, officials said.
