Andy Lopez task force to host west county meeting

West county residents will have a chance to sit down with the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office and Sebastopol Police Department Wednesday to talk about the relationship between community and law enforcement in the wake of 13-year-old Andy Lopez's shooting death.

The meeting is the second in a series organized by the The Community and Local Law Enforcement Task Force, which was created after Lopez was shot in October by a sheriff's deputy. It will last from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Sebastopol Grange, 6000 Sebastopol Ave.

About four Sebastopol police officers and six sheriff's deputies will be there to meet with residents and discuss their concerns, said Judy Rice, who chairs the Community Engagement and Healing subcommittee of the task force.

She said she hopes people from throughout West County, including Sebastopol, Occidental, Forestville and the river and ocean communities, will show up.

Organizers will provide snacks, childcare and Spanish translators.
