A San Rafael man died Friday after crashing his motorcycle into a guardrail

on Highway 1 south of Bodega Bay, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Timothy B. Orme, 32, had been riding with a friend and reportedly had been

drinking at a bar in Bodega Bay before the crash, CHP Sgt. Ken Mazzanti said.

They were ascending a hill when the friend turned around and realized Orme

was no longer following him, Mazzanti said. He found him off the road with

massive head injuries. Orme was pronounced dead at the scene, Mazzanti said.

A small grass fire that ignited after his motorcycle vaulted over the

embankment and burst into flames was extinguished by fire crews, he said.

Investigators hope to recover a helmet that also went over the side to

determine whether it offered Orme sufficient coverage, Mazzanti said.
