Nearly 70 percent of the 4,000 spots for the Levi Leipheimer King Ridge GranFondo 103-mile ride were filled by 3:30 p.m. Saturday, hours after registration opened Tuesday morning.
The other two routes, the 65-mile and 32-mile routes, were filling up more slowly.
The registrants came from all over the world, including Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Morocco, Brazil, Mexico and Australia.
By rank, the top cities of applicants were San Francisco, San Jose, Santa Rosa, Oakland, Sacramento, Palo Alto, New York and Santa Clara.
The ride, scheduled for Sept. 29, has a total of 7,500 slots.
The online registration appeared to be going smoothly, a year after the volume of participants trying to sign up overwhelmed computer servers, causing a two-day delay in registration.
Bike Monkey, the event organizer, moved the registration process to new servers and rewrote the registration forms to solve the problem.
"We are on cloud nine; the new system handled a much heavier load effortlessly," said Greg Fisher of Bike Monkey.
On Tuesday, 3,587 participants had registered by 3:30 p.m., of which 2,765 were for the 103-mile route.
The medio route had 677 registrations, with 1,823 slots remaining, and the piccolo had 145, with 855 slots still open.
The ride raised $266,000 for charity last year, including helping the city of Santa Rosa pay it's cost of hosting the Amgen Tour of California.
Registration for the ride continues at the website, www.levisgranfondo.com, until all slots are taken.
