Lake County crash victim dies; criminal charges weighed

An 80-year-old Lake County man severely hurt in a Nov. 20 vehicle crash later succumbed to his injuries, raising the prospect of criminal charges against a pickup driver who struck him after allegedly running a stop sign, the CHP said.

Clearlake Oaks resident Robert Roberts had been waiting to turn left from westbound Highway 20 onto southbound Highway 53 and had begun to turn when an oncoming pickup struck him at approximately 60 mph, the CHP said.

The pickup driver, Eureka resident Leslie Uboldi, 52, had a stop sign but failed to yield, the CHP said.

Uboldi and a passenger in Roberts' car, Mary Roberts, 64, also of Clearlake Oaks, both had major injuries, authorities said.

Robert Roberts was treated for his injuries at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital until Dec. 6, when he was transferred to a Cloverdale health care facility, the CHP said. He died Dec. 14.
