Kindergarten registration starts for Santa Rosa

Santa Rosa's school district today begins accepting kindergarten registration packets for the 2013-2014 school year.

For the second year, Santa Rosa City Schools will offer traditional kindergarten and Kinder Academy -- a two-year program targeting children who are phased out of traditional kindergarten because their birthdays fall after the new cutoff date.

The state this year rolled the kindergarten cutoff date forward from Dec. 2 to Nov. 2. For the upcoming school year, a child must turn 5 by Oct. 2 to enroll in traditional kindergarten.

Those too young for kindergarten can apply for Kinder Academy.

Parents can pick up registration packets at any Santa Rosa City Schools elementary school or at the district office at 211 Ridgway Ave. For more information, call 528-5272.
