'Glee' star returns to Petaluma

After a wildly successful visit in 2012, Chris Colfer is returning to Petaluma's Copperfield's to celebrate his second children's book, "The Enchantress Returns," on Aug. 17.

Well-known for his role as gay teen Kurt Hummel on the hit show "Glee," he has done much to contribute to widespread awareness on gay issues. Last year, Colfer delighted fans by adding author to his resume with the release of his first children's book, "The Wishing Spell."

The first story is about a set of twins who are given a fairytale book by their grandmother, not knowing they are about to be entered into a world where fairytales are real.

The fairytales are like nothing they've ever read before: Goldilocks is a wanted fugitive, Red Riding Hood has a kingdom of her own, and Queen Cinderella is about to have a child. Things get even more complicated as the twins try to find their way home, only to have the Evil Queen hot on their trail.

Colfer's second book of the series, "The Enchantress Returns," is available for pre-sale now for an Aug. 8 release date. It continues the story of twins, Alex and Conner Bailey, as they try to avoid the wrath of the Evil Queen.

This time, however, they discover she has kidnapped their mother. The twins embark on a fantasy-fueled adventure in search of their mother, trying to save the fairytale world from great peril.

The book tour comes at a tenuous time in Colfer's life due to the July 13 death of his co-star and friend Cory Monteith from a drug overdose.

Colfer has remained private as he mourns Monteith's passing, though he recently posted a message to his Instagram account with a photo of the two of them, captioned, "I'll never forget all the laughs we shared or the faces we made after awkward interview questions. Love and miss you, buddy."

His previous Copperfield's visit in July 2012 was so popular with fans, the store has stocked up on 800 copies of the new book in anticipation of high demand.

Fans who wish to meet the author are required to purchase "The Enchantress Returns" through the Petaluma Copperfield's bookstore in order to receive a signing pass.

Call 762-0563, or visit the store at 140 Kentucky St., Petaluma to order.
