County set to OK consulting deals for public power agency

Two consulting deals associated with Sonoma County's proposal to launch a public power agency are set for approval today by the county Board of Supervisors.

One would increase by $87,000 an existing contract with Dalessi Management Consulting, based in the Sacramento area. The firm is helping with the solicitation and review of bids by energy providers and the factoring of electric rates for commercial and residential customers. The amount of its existing contract was about $164,000.

The second deal would allocate $75,000 to hire a consultant to provide independent oversight of the bid process, including a review of the best final offer and negotiations on a power purchase agreement.

County Water Agency officials, who are overseeing the power agency proposal, expect to send their request for bids from power providers out by mid-February.

So far the agency has spent more than $520,000 in staff time, studies and consultants on the power proposal.
