Lake County Jail escapee spotted but eludes police on motorcycle

A Lake County Jail escapee was spotted by a sheriff's detective in Clearlake on Wednesday, but managed elude law enforcement personnel as a passenger on an off-road motorcycle.

Roger Vigil, 49, has been sought since he walked away from the county jail on April 23. He is wanted on a $50,000 warrant, Lake County sheriff's deputies said.

Vigil was spotted by a sheriff's detective at

2:14 p.m. Wednesday in Clearlake riding on the back of a dirt bike. The driver of the motorcycle has not been identified.

They escaped from deputies and Clearlake police officers by riding over paths not suitable for police vehicles.

Vigil is 5-foot-7, 165 pounds, with a shaved head. Anyone with information can contact Clearlake police at 994-8251.
