Ex-Viking Kim Conley makes 5,000m final in world meet at Moscow

Montgomery High School graduate Kim Conley and both of her U.S. teammates qualified Wednesday for the final in the 5,000-meter run at the IAAF World Championships track and field meet in Moscow.

Running in the second heat, Conley jumped out in front at 4,000 meters and held on to qualify for the final, which will be run Saturday at Luzhniki Olympic Stadium. She joined American teammates Molly Huddle of Providence, R.I., and Shannon Rowbury of San Francisco, who finished third and fourth in the first qualifying heat to secure their spots in Saturday's race.

"It felt pretty good," Conley told usatf.org. " I waited until a mile to go, and I just tried to make it a progressive effort from there, just to make sure I could weed out people who were waiting around and make sure I got a top-five spot."
