Human trafficking arrest in Santa Rosa

A 22-year-old Oakland man was being held on $500,000 bail Monday at the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of pandering and human trafficking, Santa Rosa police said.

Dominque Belton was arrested over the weekend after he brought a prostitute to a hotel room to meet with a client but instead encountered police, Sgt. Terry Anderson said.

Belton is suspected of arranging encounters with clients and the 20-year-old woman, who is from another state, Anderson said. Belton brought her to Santa Rosa from the East Bay, he said.

An FBI agent who works with a special task force that investigates exploitation of young people and children for sex received information about the woman.

FBI agents and police detectives arranged to meet Belton and the woman Sunday at the Santa Rosa hotel room and, once they arrived, arrested Belton shortly after 4 p.m., Anderson said.

A judge issued an emergency protective order barring Belton from contacting the victim.
