Vets, rents and parks
EDITOR: Sometimes the solution just slaps you in the face. You've reported on two issues lately — city of Santa Rosa-owned properties that are occupied rent free or with steeply discounted rent ("SR reveals another no-rent property," Friday) and a lack of housing for homeless veterans ("Vets housing plight," Sunday). Seems to me if the current tenants paying no or low rent were advised to find other housing, the city could allow these veterans to move in and collect rent via the vouchers.
Wait, that money, which is clearly not needed as it is not being collected now, could be used to offset the cost of restoring the parks to park-like conditions. Or would that just be too easy?
