Dangling woman rescued from A Street bridge in Santa Rosa

A woman who was spotted dangling from beneath the A Street bridge over Santa Rosa Creek was rescued Wednesday evening after mental health workers helped talk her down.

Santa Rosa police officers on patrol along the Prince Memorial Greenway spotted the young woman hanging from the piping under the downtown bridge.

They tried to communicate with the woman, but she was despondent and appeared to be having a mental health crisis, Sgt. Mike Lazzarini said.

After about an hour, the city's hostage negotiation team and county mobile mental health support team convinced the woman to climb down on her own.

The woman is 26 and was not identified. She was taken into custody and admitted to a local hospital for psychiatric evaluation, Lazzarini said.
