Carlos Ayala has been named dean of Sonoma State University's School of Education.
Ayala, 52, has been serving as interim dean in the department for more than two years.
After the university conducted a candidate search, SSU President Ruben Armi?na made the decision to promote Ayala.
Ayala joined the Sonoma State faculty in 2002, teaching science teaching methods and research methods.
He earned his Ph.D. in curriculum and teacher education at Stanford University, his master's degree in educational leadership and California administrative services credential at San Diego State University, and his single and multiple subject bilingual teaching credential in physical science and chemistry from the University of California at Santa Cruz.
Ayala's salary is $155,000 annually.
The change is effective April 1.
