Letter of the Day: Feel-good greenway

Feel-good greenway

EDITOR: We are about to repeat a stupid move ("Greenway dreams," Wednesday). Have we forgotten the days when Highway 101 was proposed to run west of town? Our politicians worked hard and won the battle. We now live with a barrier that divides our town. We plan bridges to reach SMART.

Caltrans engineers planned a good route for Highway 12 that moved traffic off Farmer's Lane and spared Rincon Valley while shortening the distance to Sonoma. The conversion of a right-of-way (paid for and vacant) that could remove nasty traffic from our city streets to a feel-good greenway is silly.

Highway traffic on city streets is bad medicine.
