Driver injured, trapped after Mustang flips on Highway 101 in Petaluma

A Ford Mustang heading south on Highway 101 in Petaluma Monday afternoon flipped and landed on its roof on the highway, trapping the woman driver inside, the CHP reported.

The car's roof was crushed down to the top of the driver's seat, which had partially protected the driver, Petaluma fire Battalion Chief Phil Sutsos said.

Firefighters popped off the door and freed the woman, who was rushed by ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries, according to initial reports.

The 12:48 p.m. highway crash was between the Highway 116 exit and Petaluma Boulevard South.

The Mustang reportedly hit an embankment, flipped and landed in the slow lane.

The crash backed up traffic, and drivers were directed around the wrecked vehicle.
