ALAMEDA — Raiders rookie tackle Menelik Watson will miss up to a month after having arthroscopic knee surgery, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Thursday.
Watson missed almost all of training camp with a calf injury sustained during training in the offseason. After one padded practice, Watson was inserted at left tackle and played into the third quarter of the preseason finale against Seattle, playing well enough to earn the starting job.
He never made it to the opener, injuring his knee. Raiders coach Dennis Allen has been asked about Watson's condition and declined to give specifics regarding how long Watson will be out.
Asked if he had any information on Watson Wednesday, Allen said, "Nothing other than he didn't practice today."
The Raiders added tackle James Cornell to the practice squad to replace Matt McCants, who was elevated to the 53-man roster when it was determined Watson would not play against Indianapolis.

Sunday's regular-season home opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars has sold out and will be televised locally.
A Raiders official confirmed Thursday that the Raiders sold out the game in advance of the league-mandated deadline of 72 hours before kickoff.
The Raiders reduced the seating capacity of the Coliseum for football games by almost 10,000 this offseason. They tarped off the upper deck on the east side of the stadium, as well as a few other upper-deck sections, to get capacity down to 53,286.
All but one home game last season sold enough tickets to avoid a blackout, when the Raiders were required to sell only 85 percent of their tickets to meet the blackout threshold in place at the time.
The Raiders now have sold out 16 of their past 17 regular-season home games, dating to the start of the 2011 season.
