Santa Rosa motorcyclist who fled hit-and-run could get probation

A Santa Rosa motorcyclist who struck a man on a bicycle and fled the scene could get off with probation at his sentencing next month.

Jared Whisman-Pryor, 27, pleaded no contest to felony hit-and-run in the October crash in Rohnert Park that injured cyclist William Schilling, 68, of Santa Rosa.

Judge Jamie Thistlethwaite indicated last week she would not send him to prison at his April 15 sentencing. Instead, she would give him three years' probation and possible county jail time.

"He turned himself in and has taken responsibility early," said his lawyer, Evan Zelig. "He's doing everything he can to make this right."

Police said Whisman-Pryor was the motorcyclist who hit Schilling on Oct. 7 on Redwood Drive near Willis Avenue. They identified him through debris left behind, surveillance images and witnesses.

Schilling suffered extensive injuries, including a broken pelvis, fractured spine and lacerations, police said.
