Robber strikes supermarket bank in Santa Rosa

A U.S. Bank branch inside a Santa Rosa Safeway store was robbed Tuesday for the second time in 5? weeks.

The Mendocino Avenue bank was hit shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday, police said. It's the second time it's been struck since Feb. 14.

Grocery bank counters have been a frequent target amid a flood of bank robberies in recent months, including several that surveillance photos suggest may be the work of a single individual. The robber Tuesday was described as a white male about 5-feet, 9-inches tall and wearing a black hooded sweater, sunglasses and some kind of hat. Emergency dispatchers said he came into the store with a demand note but did not display a weapon.
