Letter of the Day: 'Shock and awe'

'Shock and awe'

EDITOR: Thank you for running New York Times columnist Frank Bruni's insightful reflection on Pope Francis' recent interview ("The pope's soft, surprising and radical whisper," Tuesday). Indeed, the "shock and awe" that have met his call for the church to return to the priorities of Christ's message and personal M.O. point to the distance the Catholic hierarchy, as well as some of the laity, have strayed from them. It's time once again to open the windows, take a good look in the mirror, clean house and get back to basics.

You go, Francis!
