Sage Canaday captures Lake Sonoma 50

Sage Canaday, a 27-year-old newcomer to ultramarathoning, set a course record Saturday to win the Lake Sonoma 50 in 6 hours, 15 minutes, 55 seconds. He crossed the finished line more than 11? minutes ahead of runner-up Cameron Clayton.

It was Canaday's first time testing the Lake Sonoma course.

In the women's field, Cassie Scallon of Watertown, Wis., finished first in a time of 7:47:42. Scallon was passed in Mile 35 but regained the lead in the final 3 miles and held on to win.

More than 300 runners toed the starting line with another several hundred spectators on hand.

HART LOSES UFC DEBUT

Santa Rosa's Collin Hart lost a decision in his UFC debut Saturday night in Las Vegas. Undefeated Englishman Luke Barnatt was awarded a 29-28, 29-28, 30-27 verdict in their middleweight bout.

Barnatt, fighting on his birthday, improved his overall record to 6-0. Hart's pro record dropped to 4-2-1.
