What's so complicated?

EDITOR: Of course the district attorney should take the time needed to get the Andy Lopez investigation right ("Getting Lopez shooting inquiry right," Editorial, Tuesday). But it would be helpful to the public if the district attorney would give us some idea about why this particular investigation might take longer than 90 days.

Yes, it is politically explosive, but is it complicated? There appear to be two witnesses - the shooter and his partner. There is the recording of the call they made, with its important timing information. And then there is the forensic data such as the angle of Andy's body as he was being shot seven times. Is there some sort of ambiguity in this information that requires more time or special expertise?

It would also be helpful to know if the district attorney believes that any kind of crime may have been committed. I would also like to know if this case is being considered for referral to a federal grand jury.
