Letter of the Day: Irrational system

Irrational system

EDITOR: Since the failure of elected officials in Washington to fulfill their duties has panicked our population, I have been looking into causes beyond the ridiculous partisan politics of Republicans vs. Democrats. I have come to a couple of conclusions.

I'm no longer sure which party represents my view of the world. A third of eligible Americans don't bother to vote. They probably don't know, either. Reviewing the rules by which the House of Representatives and the Senate operate, I can see why. No one really understands what politicians are doing — or why or how.

Only political wonks and TV commentators have the slightest inkling, and I'm sure they mostly just guess. After all, they have to have something to prattle on about tomorrow.

Politics is completely irrational, though politicians seem to be excellent finger-pointers.
