49ers' Vernon Davis key to team's win streak

The 49ers were counting on such production from Davis to offset the injury-related absences of Mario Manningham and Michael Crabtree.

Manningham inspired a team-wide celebration when he made a touchdown catch in Wednesday's practice, but his season debut isn't expected until Nov. 10, as coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed in a Thursday interview with 95.7 The Game.

When Davis pulled his left hamstring late in a Sept. 15 blowout loss at Seattle, the 49ers offense figured to falter, as was the case a week later in the 27-7 loss to the Colts.

It was the first time in 99 games that Davis did not play, including the postseason.

"Vernon's having just a great year," offensive coordinator Greg Roman said. "Watching him prepare every day, it's great to see.He's a very talented person and we're fortunate to have him."

Said Davis: "No matter what it is — difficulties, my trials — I'll make sure I can get out there and help my team."

That hamstring strain lingered, however, and it forced him to cut short his Wednesday practices the previous two games.

He didn't score in last Sunday's 31-17 win at Tennessee, but he had four catches for 62 yards, including a pair of third-down conversions that kept alive their final touchdown drive.

Davis had only a 12-yard reception the last time the 49ers played in London, a 2010 win over the Denver Broncos. Thus far, he's enjoying their encore visit. On Tuesday night, he and Frank Gore attended an Arsenal soccer game.

"I would love to come back (again). I'd actually move here if I could," Davis said. "I love this place. It's a great experience.

"To play a game here, it's like a dream come true. As a kid, I never imagined myself playing a game in London. It's an honor, privilege and I'm very grateful."
