EUREKA Biologist admits embezzling

A biologist has been charged in federal court with conspiring to embezzle funds from an Indian tribe.

Federal prosecutors charged Ron LeValley of Eureka on Oct. 11 with participating with former Yurok Tribe forestry director Roland Raymond to submit false invoices to the tribe for environmental surveys and other work that was never done. The invoices totaled almost $1 million.

Raymond has pleaded guilty to one count of conspiring to embezzle.
