Fights follow annual Petaluma parade

Petaluma police are looking for a man suspected of beating a person unconscious Saturday in the aftermath of a community celebration.

The beating took place on the 100-block of Kentucky Street. Officers called at 6:12 p.m. found a 25-year-old man unconscious and bleeding in the street, Petaluma Police Sgt. Marty Frye said.

The beating was among a steady stream of incidents in and around downtown in the aftermath of the Butter & Egg Days Parade and Festival, Frye said.

While the event took place without a hitch, by evening officers were fielding a steady stream of issues, including 11 fights and seven calls to handle drunk and disorderly people, Frye said.

Two men, ages 63 and 32, were arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, and a woman's purse was snatched at 8:25 p.m. at a downtown restaurant, Frye said.

A second fight took place on Kentucky Street at 8:42 p.m., and police arrested Dustin Kiefer, 31, of Santa Rosa, Frye said.

The earlier fight on Kentucky Street apparently started as an argument among several people, Frye said. Witnesses said the suspect hit the other man several times and he fell to the ground, Frye said. However, several witnesses were intoxicated and "refused to cooperate," Frye said.

The man suspected of beating the unconscious man was described as a light-skinned black man in his mid-20s with a shaved head wearing blue jeans and a white tank top, according to Frye.

The victim was taken to a hospital, and his condition was unavailable late Sunday.
