Eradicating demand
EDITOR: The only actual cost cited in Saturday's article about the eradication of marijuana was the $600-per-hour fee for helicopter use ("Pot-plant removal numbers increase"). The public must assume, however, that the removal of pot plants from national forests costs a small fortune.
As a school counselor, I suggest that we use the money poured into marijuana eradication to support kids whose parents cannot or will not do the demanding work of parenting. If we were able to shore up kids who lack at-home support, maybe they would grow into people who have less need of self-medication.
Fewer people using weed means less demand — eradication in action.
