Rohnert Park man in stable condition after being shot in back

A 20-year-old Rohnert Park man was in stable condition Friday morning after he was shot in the back behind a north Petaluma 7-Eleven store Thursday evening, police said.

The shooting occurred shortly after 5 p.m. in the Orchard Supply shopping center on Old Redwood Highway and North McDowell Boulevard, police said.

The unidentified man was hit once and suffered serious internal injuries, though they did not appear to be life-threatening, police said.

Detectives were following up leads in what was being considered an attempted murder case, but officials were not releasing any new information on the shooting Friday morning, police Lt. Tim Lyons said.
