Oliver's Market has been named an "Outstanding Retailer of 2013" by a national trade group.
The Cotati-based grocery chain "pioneered the crossover between conventional and natural supermarkets in the Bay Area," according to the Specialty Food Association. It credited the company's three Sonoma County stores for "a heavy emphasis on truly local products."
Oliver's will be one of five companies that receive Outstanding Retailer awards July 1 during the Summer Fancy Food Show in New York City.
"It would be impossible to maintain an independent grocery store without the support of our local community. We owe this award to our staff, customers and local partners who allow Oliver's Market to be what it is," Tom Scott, Oliver's vice president and general manager, said in a statement.
Oliver's was founded in 1988. Gross sales reached $85 million in 2012, according to Specialty Food Magazine.
