Body found off Gualala identified as missing man

The body of a man found in the waters off Gualala on Saturday was identified as missing Sacramento-area developer Stephen Clark Pease.

Pease, 57, of Roseville originally was spotted by divers who contacted the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office to recover his body.

Investigators performed an autopsy on the body Tuesday and found hip replacement parts which were traced to Pease. He had been reported missing to the Roseville Police Department on Halloween, according to a news release from the Mendocino Sheriff's Department.

The cause of Pease's death is under investigation.

The Roseville Police Department determined that Pease had checked out of a Fort Bragg area motel on Nov. 3, and the motel was about 50 to 60 miles from where his body was found.

The rented silver 2014 Chevrolet Captiva Pease was believed to be driving, with Oregon license plate 500GKN, is now missing, investigators said.
