Medtronic cuts 20 Santa Rosa jobs in restructuring move

Medtronic cut 20 jobs at its Santa Rosa facility last month as part of a restructuring plan announced this week, a spokesman said Tuesday.

The Santa Rosa-based vascular unit also cut 15 field jobs based outside Sonoma County, spokesman Joe McGrath said.

The company now employs 950 people in Sonoma County, up from 840 a year ago.

"We have definitely grown. The businesses based in Santa Rosa are doing very well," McGrath said.

The vascular division makes coronary stents and stent graft systems for treating artery disease. It reported $2.64 billion in global sales for the fiscal year ending April 26, up from $2.38 billion the previous year.

On Tuesday, Medtronic disclosed plans to lay off 2,000 employees worldwide, including 70 in California. The cuts in Sonoma County have been completed, McGrath said.
