Santa Rosa to donate Korean War memorial to air museum

Santa Rosa has agreed to donate a long-ignored Korean War memorial to the Pacific Coast Air Museum.

The plaque honors the efforts of the U.S. Navy's Carrier Air Group Two, which operated at the Santa Rosa Auxiliary Landing Field in southwest of the city between July 1951 and February 1952.

The memorial was commemorated in 1990 and sits just outside the grounds of the city's Samuel Jones Hall Homeless Shelter at 4020 Finley Ave. It became the property of the city in 2003.

Korean War veteran Raymond Andrews suggested the memorial be transferred to the museum. The city agreed that it would make it more accessible to the public.

"They are really excited about displaying it at their museum," said the city's arts coordinator Tara Matheny-Schuster.
