Santa Rosa police suspect a man linked to a bank robbery in Arcata may be the same person who last week walked into a Montgomery Village bank and handed a teller a note demanding cash.
Stephen Long, 63, of Windham, Maine, was arrested Monday on suspicion of robbing an Arcata Bank of America branch earlier that day, police said. A tipster told police where to find Long at an Arcata motel.
Long was booked into the Humboldt County jail, and the FBI, which investigates bank robberies, contacted Santa Rosa detectives and said Long matched the description of the man caught on surveillance during the Nov. 27 heist, Santa Rosa Police Sgt. Dave Linscomb said.
Santa Rosa police now suspect Long was the white man in his 60s who walked into Sonoma Avenue Bank of America branch at about 4:45 p.m. Nov. 27, handed the teller a note demanding cash and left with an undisclosed amount, Linscomb said.
Santa Rosa police expect to seek robbery charges against Long, he said.
