Unpaid tolls
EDITOR: With the recent revelation that the Golden Gate Bridge continues to lose untold thousands of dollars every day on unpaid tolls, here is a solution that will cost a fraction of what they are losing. Post a prominent sign at the north end of the bridge:
No FasTrak?
No license plates?
Use right lane only — stop pay toll.
$500 fine for failing to stop.
All it would cost is the expense of re-activating one toll booth and staffing it 24/7. The cost could easily be covered by collecting what is now revenue lost forever.
Since bridge officials have no idea how much money they are losing, a one-year test is in order to compare recovered revenue and costs.
The solution is here, but officials seemingly will remain paralyzed. As usual.
