Santa Rosa was presented with an award earlier this month for its plan to encourage higher-density housing near the future commuter rail station west west of Coddingtown Mall.
The city's North Station Area Specific Plan was given an award of merit from the Northern California Chapter of the American Planning Association.
The plan envisions 2,941 new housing units, more than a million square feet of office, retail and industrial space, and the creation of nearly 6,000 new jobs in the ?-mile areas around the mall and future site of the city's second Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit station.
Supervising Planner Lisa Kranz made a presentation to the City Council last week praising Planner Jessica Jones, who she said "did a great job balancing a number of competing interests and bringing the project in in a very successful manner."
