Former Healdsburg soccer official sentenced in embezzlement case

A former Healdsburg youth soccer league president who embezzled $30,000 from the organization was sentenced to nine months in jail and ordered to repay the stolen money.

Mitzi Giron, 30, received the punishment Tuesday from Judge Jamie Thistlethwaite. She will be permitted to apply for a special program that allows her to serve her time out of custody.

Giron has returned $14,500 but must pay off the balance, the judge said.

She pleaded guilty in July to embezzling the money from Healdsburg Youth Soccer League accounts last year.

Giron was the second league president to be sentenced for stealing money from the program, which serves 300 boys and girls from 4 to 18 years old.

Two years ago, Kyle Hoffman was sentenced to nine months in jail for stealing $58,000 from the league.
