Frigid temperatures recorded across county

Rain expected Friday afternoon or evening could drop snow on elevations as low as 1,500 feet overnight and Saturday morning, though "we're tweaking some of those numbers as we speak," Benjamin said.

"Probably a good likelihood there will be some dustings of snow beginning Friday night/Saturday morning, and then as long as we have precipitation in that area," he said.

Predawn temperatures Wednesday were at or below freezing pretty much everywhere in the county, with 26 degrees recorded at the Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport, as well as at another monitoring site off Yerba Buena Road in the Rincon Valley area of Santa Rosa, Benjamin said.

The warm spot was Bodega Bay at 33, according to meteorologist Will Pi, followed by Healdsburg at 31.

By late afternoon Wednesday, the mercury never got higher than the low 50s in Sonoma County. The warmest spot was Santa Rosa at 54. Petaluma and Healdsburg both tied at 52 degrees.

As low temperatures continue to drop going into Thursday, daytime highs may fall a tad, as well, remaining in the mid- to upper 40s, Benjamin said.

Cold temperatures will remain in the area, though cloud cover building on Friday may bring morning temperatures slightly above freezing on Saturday, only to drop to the mid-20s again Sunday morning.
