Letter of the Day: Rules for Apple

Rules for Apple

EDITOR: Apple's CEO put on quite a show at the Senate hearing, stating with indignation that Apple pays all the taxes it is supposed to. Since it pays no corporate taxes to the federal government, due to the plethora of loopholes, I suggest that Apple adhere to the following rules:

• The company will not be protected from any foreign power (i.e. as in using the Department of Defense).

• The company cannot hire students graduating from public institutions.

• The company cannot use federal highways.

• The company cannot benefit in any way from government-sponsored medical or technological research.

• The company must use foods and other materials that have not been protected from toxins and other dangers via government inspections.

I was amused but not surprised by Sen. Rand Paul's defense of Apple. Paul, who eschews any taxation and believes that the nation can run on goodwill and altruism, is true to his Ayn Rand belief system.
