Three Sonoma County school districts on state financial watch list

Three Sonoma County school districts are on the state's financial watch list, according to documents released Tuesday by the California Department of Education.

Windsor is in negative financial status, meaning Sonoma County's fourth-largest school district is not projected to meet minimum reserve and cash flow requirements over two years. In April the district was assigned a fiscal minder who has authority over the district's financial maneuvers.

Cotati-Rohnert Park and West Sonoma County districts are in qualified status, meaning they are not projected to meet those same thresholds over a three-year period.

The districts on the list represent about 1.7 million students statewide.

There are 92 school districts in either negative or qualified status, down from a record high of 188 a year ago. At that time, four Sonoma County school districts made the watch list.
