Kelseyville man killed in crash

A Kelseyville man died in a crash Saturday afternoon, after his car was hit by another vehicle, according to the CHP.

Driver Brandon B. Helmer, 26, died in the 4:50 p.m. crash on Highway 29, south of Cruickshank Road.

Helmer had been driving south on the rural highway in the Kelseyville area.

He was traveling along an uphill stretch when a truck heading down the grade moved into his path, the CHP said.

The 1994 Dodge Ram truck driven by Wayne Caldwell, 39, crossed the double yellow lines and hit the front of Helmer's 1992 Acura Integra.

The truck then overturned as it travelled down a dirt embankment on the highway's east side.

Caldwell, a Willits resident, had minor injuries. He was treated and released from Sutter Lakeside Hospital.

Helmer was trapped in his crumpled car and died at the scene, the CHP said.

What caused the crash remained under investigation. Alcohol didn't appear to be involved, according to the highway patrol.
